The UK Government raised the terrorism threat level in the United Kingdom on 30 April from ‘substantial’ to ‘severe’, meaning an attack is highly likely. Be alert to the risks and take official warnings seriously. We continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution in the UK due to the threat of terrorism (see ‘Safety’).
The 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games will be held from 23 July to 2 August. If you plan to be in the UK during this period, plan your travel well in advance.
Australian-British or Australian-Irish dual citizens must enter the UK on their British or Irish passports, or through a certificate of entitlement in another valid passport. These dual citizens are unable to obtain an ETA or visa to enter the UK. Dual citizens may not be able to board a flight to the UK without a valid document. The UK Government started enforcing these requirements from 25 February (see ‘Travel’).
We advise:
Exercise a high degree of caution in the UK due to the threat of terrorism.
