Ghana has closed land borders until 6pm (local time) on 8 December due to the elections on 7 December. During the election period, avoid areas affected by rallies, demonstrations or large public gatherings. Some shops and services may operate on reduced hours. Monitor media for updates and follow the advice from local authorities.
We continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution in Ghana. Higher levels apply in some areas. Strikes can occur, affecting essential services. There’s been an increase in reported incidents of banditry involving passenger buses travelling in the Upper West and Upper East regions. Injuries and deaths have resulted (see ‘Safety’). There’s currently an outbreak of Mpox in parts of Africa, including Ghana.
We advise:
Exercise a high degree of caution in Ghana overall due to the threat of crime.
Higher levels apply in some areas.
