Democratic Republic of the Congo

The security situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is volatile. Conflict in Eastern DRC is escalating. The security situation in and around Goma is deteriorating and closure of airspace is possible. Options to depart may cease with little or no warning. If safe to do so, leave affected areas. The ability of the Australian Government to deliver consular services to Australians in Eastern DRC is extremely limited. Protests may occur in Kinshasa and other locations. Monitor local media for updates, follow the advice of local authorities, arrange effective personal safety measures and ensure travel documents are up to date.

We advise:

Reconsider your need to travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo overall due to the volatile security situation and the threat of terrorism and kidnapping.

Higher levels apply in some areas.
