Belgium has introduced additional entry checks until December 2025. Checks may be carried out on major roads leading into Belgium, motorway car parks, international bus and train services and intra-Schengen flights. Temporary border controls are also in place for travel from Belgium to France, Germany and the Netherlands (see ‘Travel’).
There’s an ongoing threat of terrorism in Belgium. Belgium’s national threat level is set at ‘serious’ – level 3 of 4. Crowded places such as music and cultural events, festivals, tourist areas, shopping areas, transport hubs, major sporting events and other public areas are possible targets. Be vigilant in public places and follow the advice of local authorities (see ‘Safety’).
General strikes occur often in Belgium and may cause significant travel disruption across the country. Monitor local media and check with your travel provider for potential delays.
We advise:
Exercise normal safety precautions in Belgium.
