The new European Entry/Exit System (EES) starts on 12 October for all non-EU nationals, including Australians, travelling in or out of the Schengen Area. You’ll need to register at borders and have your fingerprint and photo taken. There may be longer border queues (see ‘Travel’).
Sweden’s domestic terror alert is now at ‘elevated’ (level 3 of 5). Terrorist attacks could occur anywhere and at any time. While violent incidents are rare in tourist locations, you should still be cautious. There are incidents of gang-related violent crime in Sweden. Be alert in public places and report suspicious activity to the police (see ‘Safety’).
