Yellow fever is a risk in Peru. Get vaccinated before you travel. You will need a yellow fever vaccination certificate to enter some countries after visiting Peru (see ‘Health’).

Political protests, demonstrations and strikes are common in Peru, particularly in the historic centre of Lima. Past demonstrations have turned violent and disrupted public transport services, including transport to and from Machu Picchu. Avoid protests, monitor local media for updates and follow the advice of local authorities.
