Madagascar

We’ve reviewed our advice for Madagascar and have raised the overall travel advice level. We now advise reconsider your need to travel overall due to demonstrations and civil unrest.

Demonstrations continue in Antananarivo and several major cities across Madagascar. Violent incidents, including shootings and looting, have led to deaths. A curfew from dusk until dawn has been imposed in Antananarivo and most major cities. Further curfews and restrictions on movement could be imposed without notice.

Demonstrations can turn violent with little or no warning, disrupting public transport services. The airport may also be impacted. Contact your airline or travel provider before you travel to the airport. Avoid demonstrations and large public gatherings, monitor local media and follow the instructions of local authorities, including curfew orders (see ‘Safety’).

We advise:

Reconsider your need to travel to Madagascar due to demonstrations and civil unrest.
