Do not travel to Mali due to the dangerous security situation and the high threat of terrorism and kidnapping. If you’re in Mali, you should depart immediately using commercial means while the international airport in Bamako remains open and flights are available. If you decide to remain in Mali, be prepared to shelter in place for an extended period. Australia doesn’t have an embassy in Mali and our ability to provide consular assistance in Mali is extremely limited (see ‘Safety’).
There’s an ongoing and very high threat of terrorism throughout Mali, including Bamako. Terrorists have targeted security forces, civilians, foreign nationals and foreign interests, resulting in casualties. Terrorist groups have directly threatened foreign interests, including mining companies operating in Mali. Attacks can occur in places visited by foreigners, including airports, public transport and transportation hubs, hotels, tourist attractions, restaurants, cafes, shopping centres and markets (see ‘Safety’).
We continue to advise:
Do not travel to Mali due to the dangerous security situation and the threat of terrorism and kidnapping.
