We continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution in Ghana overall due to the threat of violent crime. Higher levels apply in some areas. There’s been recent reports of tribal conflict in the Savannah region, near the Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso borders causing deaths and displacement of communities. If you’re travelling in the area you should keep informed about the situation, seek local advice and take precautions.
There are several curfews in place across Ghana. Plan your travel movements to avoid breaking the curfew and follow the directions of local authorities (see ‘Safety’). Avoid demonstrations, protests, large public events and intercommunity disputes, as they can turn violent. There’s been an increase in reported incidents of banditry involving passenger buses travelling in the Upper West and Upper East regions. Injuries and deaths have resulted.
We advise:
Exercise a high degree of caution in Ghana overall due to the threat of violent crime.
Higher levels apply in some areas.
