Senegal

We advise exercise a high degree of caution in Senegal. The Senegal Ministry of Health declared an outbreak of Rift Valley Fever in September 2025. The outbreak has spread to the following regions in Senegal: Saint Louis, Matam, Louga, Dakar, Thies, Kedougou, Kolda, Kaolack, Kaffrine, Fatick, and Tambacounda. Maintain strict hygiene and protect yourself from mosquito bites (see ‘Health’).

Protests in Senegal can turn violent, resulting in several deaths and injuries. Avoid protests and public gatherings, limit unnecessary travel and remain vigilant (see ‘Safety’). The Australian High Commission in Accra has very limited capacity to provide consular assistance in Senegal.

We advise:

Exercise a high degree of caution in Senegal overall due to the risk of civil unrest and threat of crime.

Higher levels apply.
