Uganda

We continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution in Uganda overall due to the threat of terrorism and violent crime, and the risk of civil unrest. Higher levels apply in the border areas with South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Uganda held presidential elections on 15 January. Telecommunications and internet access are being restored gradually. There are some reports of violence, including in Kampala, and there have been calls for further protest by opposition figures. During periods of political tension, local authorities may increase security measures, restrict movement and impose curfews with little notice. Avoid large gatherings, monitor local media and follow the advice of authorities (see ‘Safety’).

We advise:

Exercise a high degree of caution in Uganda overall due to the threat of terrorism and violent crime, and the risk of civil unrest.

Higher levels apply in some areas.
