We continue to advise do not travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) due to the volatile security situation and the threat of conflict, violent protests, terrorism and kidnapping. Violent demonstrations and protests may occur in Kinshasa and other locations (see ‘Safety’).
On 17 May, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the Ebola outbreak in the DRC’s Ituri Province as a public health emergency. The Bundibugyo strain of Ebola has no approved vaccines or specific antiviral treatments. Outbreaks of cholera and mpox continue. Maintain strict hygiene (see ‘Health’).
