Bangladesh

Three days of national mourning have been declared starting with a public holiday on 31 December following the death of Khaleda Zia, former Prime Minister of Bangladesh. There may be large crowds and disruptions to traffic and services. Monitor the media for updates and follow the instructions of local authorities.

Bangladesh will hold national elections on 12 February, 2026.

We continue to advise reconsider your need to travel due to ongoing civil unrest, demonstrations and terrorism. The situation remains volatile, with an ongoing risk of protests and demonstrations across Bangladesh and a heightened risk of civil unrest and disorder (see ‘Safety’).

We advise:

Reconsider your need to travel to Bangladesh overall due to ongoing civil unrest, demonstrations and terrorism.
