Brazil is hosting COP30 in Belem from 6 to 21 November, with events also being held in Sao Paulo on 3 to 4 November and Rio de Janeiro on 5 November. These events may cause travel disruptions due to increased security, as well as demonstrations. Avoid demonstrations and follow the instructions of local authorities.
We continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution in Brazil due to the threat of violent crime. There’s an increase in methanol poisoning cases being reported. Be alert to the potential risks of drink spiking and methanol poisoning when consuming alcoholic drinks (see ‘Safety’).
You’ll need a visa to enter Brazil. Arrange your visa before arrival, as you won’t be able to obtain a visa at the airport or border entry point. Entry and exit conditions can change at short notice (see ‘Travel’).
We advise:
Exercise a high degree of caution in Brazil due to the threat of violent crime.
