Bulgaria

When planning your travel to Bulgaria, check the travel advice for countries you intend to transit, including the Middle East. Read our Middle East Conflict pages (see ‘Travel’).

Bulgaria’s official currency is the Euro. The Bulgarian Leva (BGN) will no longer be accepted. The European Entry/Exit System (EES) has started for all non-EU nationals, including Australians, travelling in or out of the Schengen Area. You’ll need to register at borders and have your fingerprint and photo taken. There may be longer border queues (see ‘Travel’).

We advise:

Exercise normal safety precautions in Bulgaria.
