On 1 January 2026, Croatia is re-introducing compulsory military service for its male nationals. Male dual Australian-Croatian nationals need to report to the defence authorities of Croatia. Failure to do so is an offence. You should check your obligations regarding compulsory military service with the Ministry of Defence in Croatia or the nearest Croatian diplomatic or consular mission in Australia (see ‘Local laws’).
The new European Entry/Exit System (EES) has started for all non-EU nationals, including Australians, travelling in or out of the Schengen Area. You’ll need to register at borders and have your fingerprint and photo taken. There may be longer border queues (see ‘Travel’).
We advise:
Exercise normal safety precautions in Croatia.
