We continue to advise reconsider your need to travel to Ethiopia overall. Other levels apply in some areas. Ethiopia’s borders with Eritrea, Somalia, Kenya, South Sudan, and Sudan are high-risk areas. Do not travel to the Tigray regional state and other border areas due to the security situation including the risk of terrorist attacks, kidnapping, civil unrest and armed conflict. The security situation could deteriorate further with little or no warning. Fuel is in short supply across Ethiopia, and many petrol stations have long queues (see ‘Safety’ and ‘Travel’). This may lead to travel delays, especially outside Addis Ababa. Our ability to provide consular assistance in ‘do not travel’ areas of Ethiopia is extremely limited.
We advise:
Reconsider your need to travel to Ethiopia overall due to the risk of civil unrest and the threat of armed conflict.
Other levels apply in some areas.
