Make sure your travel insurance covers you for activities you will undertake while overseas, and includes medical evacuation. Beaches in French Polynesia are not patrolled. There may be strong currents, even in the lagoons, ask locals before going swimming, obey warning signs and follow the advice of local authorities (see ‘Safety’).
