Philippines

We continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution overall due to the threat of terrorism and violent crime.

There’s an increased risk of demonstrations and civil unrest following recent events. Avoid protests and large gatherings as they may turn violent without warning. Terrorist attacks could occur anywhere in the Philippines, including at these protests.

Protests can result in disruptions to transport and other essential services. If you’re in the vicinity of a protest or large gathering, exercise a high degree of caution, follow the instructions of local authorities and monitor media and government sources for updates.

Possible targets for terrorist attacks include protests, aviation and airports, public transport, hotels, shopping malls, restaurants, major events, places of worship and tourist areas (see ‘Safety’). Do not travel to central and western Mindanao, including the Zamboanga Peninsula, Sulu Archipelago and the southern Sulu Sea area due to the very high threat of terrorism and kidnapping.

We advise:

Exercise a high degree of caution in the Philippines overall due to the threat of terrorism and violent crime.

Higher levels apply in some areas.
