Increased fighting in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) may affect people on the Rwandan side of the border. Do not travel to the Rubavu district, including the town of Gisenyi, due to the volatile security situation. If you’re in the Rubavu district, you should leave if it is safe to do so. Other levels apply in some areas.
Reconsider your need to travel within 10 kilometres of the rest of Rwanda’s border with the DRC, including parts of Rusizi district, due to the proximity of potential conflict. Monitor local media for updates, follow the advice of local authorities, arrange effective personal safety measures and ensure your travel documents are up to date. Rwanda’s border with Burundi remains closed.
We advise:
Exercise normal safety precautions in Rwanda.
