Senegal

We advise exercise a high degree of caution in Senegal. The Senegal Ministry of Health has declared an outbreak of Rift Valley Fever in northern Senegal. Maintain strict hygiene and protect yourself from mosquito bites (see ‘Health’).

Protests in Senegal can turn violent, resulting in several deaths and injuries. Avoid protests and public gatherings, limit unnecessary travel and remain vigilant (see ‘Safety’). The Australian High Commission in Accra has very limited capacity to provide consular assistance in Senegal.

We advise:

Exercise a high degree of caution in Senegal overall due to the risk of civil unrest and threat of crime.

Higher levels apply.
