Sierra Leone

We’ve reviewed our advice for Sierra Leone and continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution. Public protests and demonstrations can turn violent with little or no warning. Avoid demonstrations, protests and areas where large gatherings are taking place. Follow the instructions of local authorities and check local media for updates. Power and water shortages occur regularly. Ensure that you maintain enough food, water and emergency supplies. The Australian High Commission in Accra currently has very limited capacity to provide consular assistance in Sierra Leone.

We advise:

Exercise a high degree of caution in Sierra Leone due to the threat of violent crime and the risk of civil unrest.
