Solomon Islands

We continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution in Honiara. Petty crime, break-ins, robbery and sexual assault can occur. Don’t walk, jog or cycle alone after dark. Most roads in Solomon Islands are in poor condition, and traffic jams are common in Honiara. When driving, keep doors locked and windows up. Only use registered taxis and authorised vehicles. Political unrest can occur in Honiara during Parliament sittings, elections and times of political uncertainty. Demonstrations can turn violent quickly. Avoid protests and political gatherings.

The cyclone season is from November to May. Flooding and landslides can occur (see ‘Safety’).

We advise:

Exercise normal safety precautions in Solomon Islands overall.

Higher levels apply in some areas.
