Solomon Islands

We continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution in Honiara. Political unrest can occur in Honiara during Parliament sittings, elections and periods of political uncertainty. There may be a motion of no confidence moved in Parliament from 13 December. Demonstrations can turn violent quickly. Avoid protests and political gatherings.

Petty crime, break-ins, robbery and sexual assault can occur. Don’t walk, jog or cycle alone after dark. Most roads in Solomon Islands are in poor condition and traffic jams are common in Honiara.

The cyclone season is from November to May. Flooding and landslides can occur (see ‘Safety’).

We advise:

Exercise normal safety precautions in Solomon Islands overall.

Higher levels apply in some areas.
