Tanzania

The US Embassy in Tanzania has issued a security alert to advise avoiding all travel to islands and coastal areas south of Kisiju. Terrorism and violent crime are risks in Tanzania. Be alert to your surroundings and pay close attention to your personal security (see ‘Safety’).
There’s currently an Mpox outbreak in parts of Africa, including in Tanzania. You’ll need to pass through Mpox screening, including body temperature checks, at all points of entry into Tanzania (see ‘Health’). To travel to Zanzibar, you’ll need inbound travel insurance from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation. This insurance coverage is limited, so make sure you have other insurance coverage for your travel.

We advise:

Exercise a high degree of caution in Tanzania overall due to the risk of violent crime.

Higher levels apply in some areas.
