We’re reviewed our travel advice and continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution in Thailand overall. We have lowered the level for some areas and now advise reconsider your need to travel to areas within 50 kilometres of the Thailand-Cambodia border in the provinces of Chanthaburi and mainland Trat. We continue to advise do not travel to areas within 50 kilometres of the Thailand-Cambodia land border in the provinces of Sa Kaeo, Buriram, Si Saket, Surin and Ubon Ratchathani, due to recent armed conflict between Thai and Cambodian forces, which included military strikes and violence and the presence of landmines.
A ceasefire has been agreed between Thailand and Cambodia but the security situation along the Thailand-Cambodia border remains unpredictable. Follow the advice of local authorities, monitor local media for updates and pay close attention to your personal security (see ‘Safety’).
There’s an ongoing risk of terrorism in Thailand. Popular tourist areas may be the target of terrorist attacks anywhere across Thailand, including Bangkok and Phuket (see ‘Safety’).
We advise:
Exercise a high degree of caution in Thailand overall due to security and safety risks.
Higher levels apply in some areas.
