Uganda

We’ve reviewed our advice for Uganda and have raised the overall travel advice level. We now advise reconsider your need to travel overall due to the outbreak of Ebola disease. The risks of terrorism, violent crime and civil unrest remain. Higher levels also apply in some areas.

The Bundibugyo strain of Ebola has no approved vaccines or specific antiviral treatments (see ‘Health’).

If you’re travelling from Uganda, you may be subject to entry restrictions, health screening or quarantine in your transit and travel destinations. Contact your airline directly for the latest updates and check the entry requirements of the destinations you’re travelling to or transiting. The border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is currently closed (see ‘Travel’).

During periods of political tension, local authorities may increase security measures, restrict movement and impose curfews with little notice. Avoid large gatherings, monitor local media and follow the advice of authorities (see ‘Safety’).

We now advise:

Reconsider your need to travel to Uganda due to the outbreak of Ebola disease, as well as the threat of terrorism and violent crime and the risk of civil unrest.

Higher levels apply in some areas.
